Join a Guide Team and Help Seekers Imagine Their Future

What is This?

Guide teams are different from, and complement, one-on-one chats. Guide teams include you and two other members of a team (a high school or college student, a young adult and an older adult), the conversations occur on a regular schedule that your team selects, and teams talk about life’s important questions, inspired by resources from a menu developed for the Imagining Your Future program.

What Makes Guide Teams a Great Opportunity?

Learn About Important Issues Together

Every team member benefits from the perspectives of the other members — on school and work, value systems, life-view, work-view, obligations to self and to others, and personal goals.

Really Get to Know Immanulites of Different Generations

Different life experiences add to the richness of thoughtful discussions amongst people with different perspectives and at different stages of life.

Be Inspired by Thought-Provoking Resources Used by Guide Teams

The videos, books, articles, podcasts and exercises are developed in large part by Peter Vorkink, who has been teaching a course called “Imagining Your Future” for many years. Your team reviews an annotated list of resources and chooses what it was to talk about.

Guide Teams Offer the Chance to Step Away from the Grind, and Reflect

Teams find their regular meetings a welcomed respite and an opportunity to slow down and think about life’s important questions.

Guide Teams Can Help Seekers Find One-on-One Chats

Seekers benefit from having fellow team members recommend mentors for one-on-one-one chats. Think of fellow team members as “sherpas” into the Congregation.

Interested in One-On-One Chats?

Whether or not you’re a member of a guide team, one-on-one chats with seekers compliment the 3-person experience. This is an opportunity for a one-time video chat or cup of coffee with seekers who review your experience in a mentor directory, and reach out to chat. Mentors often get more out of these chats than the seekers!
